Laser-assisted Removal of Bronchial Plastic Foreign Body

Abstract

|
Bronchial foreign body is one of the most common causes of the lower airway obstruction in the pediatric age group and can produce different symptoms and signs, which may be confused with other disease. So, the accurate diagnosis and prompt
treatment
would be delayed and the prognosis is considered as disastrous.
Recently, we experienced a case of plastic foreign body lodged at the entrance at the entrance of the right lower bronchus, which resulted in atelectasis in the right lower lung field on chest X-ray examination. It was possible to remove the
smooth
plastic foreign body after diode-laser vaporization of the surface under the ventilating bronchoscopy without specific complication. (Korean J Otolaryngol 39 : 1, 1996)
